Presentation Title: Design Considerations for Tethered Aerostat Systems

Design Considerations for Tethered Aerostat Systems

Unmanned air systems have a grooving number of types for different problems and environments. Tethered air systems are connected to the ground or base platform using a special cable, called tether cable. This cable provides mechanical strength, unlimited power and uninterruptable high-speed communications between the ground and air segments. Although the mobility of the tethered air systems are totally different than the conventional systems, the tethered air systems have advantages for long flight endurance, operation in harsh environment, operation in GNSS denied environment and more.
In this session, modern design considerations will be reviewed for lighter than air platforms, namely aerostats. The design considerations will include the power electronics and communications for tethered applications, advanced materials for air platform and the tether cable, reducing crew workload for ground segment, and effects of advanced mission payloads.

Ahmet Nezir Erturk has a BSc degree from Computer Engineering and Information Science department of İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University and MBA degree from Gazi University. He has 30+ years of experience in defence and aviation industries. He participated in design, development, modernization and verification of various air platforms including large helicopters, passenger and cargo airplanes, modern fighter jets, fixed wing unmanned air systems, hot air balloons, airships, aerostats and tethered drones.
He founded Otonom Teknoloji in 2012 to design and manufacture modern unmanned and autonomous platforms to serve in defence, aviation and agriculture sectors. He is still acting as the General Manager of Otonom Teknoloji. He is also managing a citrus farm in Turkey and voluntarily supports Computer Engineering education in the country.

Presentation Title: The Importance of Green Hydrogen in the Aviation Sector

The Importance of Green Hydrogen in the Aviation Sector

As the aviation industry confronts the pressing challenge of reducing its carbon footprint, green hydrogen emerges as a transformative solution. This speech explores the critical role of green hydrogen in decarbonizing air travel, emphasizing its potential to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions and enhance sustainability. Unlike conventional fossil fuels, green hydrogen is produced using renewable energy sources, making it a clean alternative that aligns with global climate goals.
We will discuss the advancements in hydrogen production, storage, and fuel cell technologies that are paving the way for its integration into aviation. Key case studies of airlines and manufacturers already investing in hydrogen initiatives will illustrate the feasibility and benefits of this approach. Additionally, we will address the challenges, including infrastructure development and regulatory frameworks, that must be overcome to fully realize green hydrogen’s potential in aviation.
By embracing green hydrogen, the aviation sector can lead the charge towards a sustainable future, significantly contributing to global efforts to combat climate change. This speech aims to inspire stakeholders across the industry to invest in innovative solutions that will redefine air travel for generations to come.

Hüseyin Devrim, who graduated from METU Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department in 1992, is the co-founder of TEKSIS and has been working as General Manager than 2007. He used his experience and knowledge in the development innovative commercial products in Hydrogen Value Chain and has been involved as a project manager in more than 30 national and international R&D projects. He shares his experience and achievements of these projects in the sector with the global public through international fairs, congresses and seminars, as well as interviews and scientific publications published by various journals.
Since TEKSIS has started to take part in the field of Hydrogen Technologies as a Technical Consulting and EPC company in recent years, Mr. Devrim has been involved in the preparation and realization of the feasibility of many green Hydrogen production, storage, transportation, distribution and utilization projects with commercial products.
He is the member of Hydrogen Europe, Hydrogen Alliance, National Hydrogen Association, Turkish Standard Institute (TSI) Hydrogen Technologies Mirror Committee, ITU Energy Institute Advisory Board, Eskişehir Technical University Civil Aviation Research and Application Center Advisory Board, and ENSİA (Energy Industrialists & Business Association) Board of Directors, head of Hydrogen Working Group. Presentation Title: Aviation Sustainability Revolution with AI

Aviation Sustainability Revolution with AI

AI-driven technologies hold promises in significantly reducing aviation emissions by optimizing flight paths, improving air traffic management, and enhancing predictive maintenance. Advanced algorithms can analyze vast datasets to identify the most efficient routes, reducing unnecessary fuel consumption and thus, carbon emissions. AI can also facilitate real-time adjustments in flight paths, considering weather conditions and air traffic, further minimizing environmental impact.

AI’s potential extends beyond direct emission reductions and fuel optimization. It can foster eco-friendly practices through predictive analytics and automation. For instance, AI can aid in the development of more sustainable materials and manufacturing processes, monitor and predict environmental impacts, predictive maintenance, and improve waste management practices within airports. Additionally, AI can support the transition to alternative fuels by optimizing their usage and ensuring seamless integration with existing aviation infrastructure.
